Milestone for sustainable logistics: rail instead of road at the Annual Meeting Davos 2024.

We have a vision: to make major events such as the Annual Meeting in Davos more climate-friendly and sustainable. In 2024, we achieved a decisive breakthrough: for the first time, logistics transport was successfully shifted to rail – a first that is considered groundbreaking far beyond the borders of Davos.

A project that moves

The logistics for the Annual Meeting in Davos pose a huge challenge: tonnes of event and interior construction materials have to be transported to Davos. Until now, lorry traffic has dominated – but we have changed that. After months of preparation, our team, together with Planzer, Bündner Güterbahn and SBB Cargo, carried out a test run: a loaded container travelled from Villmergen via Dietikon to the Landquart freight handling centre, where it was transferred to the Rhaetian Railway and transported safely to Davos.

The result?

A smooth process and a clear message: sustainable solutions are not only possible, they set new standards for the entire industry.

The way forward

Successful implementation is just the beginning. The municipality of Davos has ambitious goals for subsequent annual meetings:

  • More transport by rail: Even more goods are to be transported by rail in order to further relieve the heavily used roads in Graubünden.
  • Less lorry traffic: Particularly long journeys, such as those from abroad, should be transferred to trains as far as possible.
  • Optimised processes: Even semi-trailers are to be transported by rail in future.

Sustainability with substance

This project shows how innovation and commitment can achieve great things when combined. The first step has been taken – and we are more determined than ever to continue intensifying our efforts.
