«On and Around»

Vaudoise Insurance and Richnerstutz AG have clad the scaffolding around Vaudoise's historic headquarters in Lausanne. The large-format implementation covers 2,300 m2 and displays the art project “On and Around” by Irish artist Nigel Peake.

Owing to renovation work the head office of Vaudoise Insurance is currently surrounded by scaffolding, which is being used by the Vaudoise Art Commission for an art installation by Nigel Peake. Born in Ireland in 1981, the architect, designer and visual artist exhibits his works in Europe and the USA. On behalf of Vaudoise, Richnerstutz AG placed his artwork “On and Around” onto the tarpaulins and the scaffolding – all in record time. It took just ten days from approving the prints to the finished installation.

This successful implementation required close collaboration with Vaudoise, Nigel Peake and Itten+Brechbühl, the architecture firm commissioned to carry out the renovations. Richnerstutz AG was responsible for planning, producing samples, taking precise measurements, creating the plans and visualisations, as well as for production and installation.

The production of the gigantic artwork also posed a challenge. To do this, Richnerstutz AG bonded the lengths of printed material together and added fasteners all round. “On and Around” is presented as a complete artwork that attracts admiration from passers-by. The way in which the lines, colours and structures are interwoven creates a constantly renewing dialogue between the architecture, the city and the surrounding landscape.

The image shows large-format fabrication (e.g., cutting, welding, and preparing fasteners) for printed tarps and scaffolding covers, such as those produced by Richnerstutz for large-scale projects.
