A new digital LED ceiling is creating a stylish ambience at the LOEB department store in Bern. The 40 m² installation with 80 high-definition LED panels closes off the atrium above the escalator shaft with eye-catching designs.
An impressive digital LED ceiling was installed during the modernization of the Nido rooftop restaurant at the LOEB department store in Bern. This 40 m² LED display space gives the six-storey building a high-class look.
A special frame construction was developed for its assembly, to which 80 upside-down LED panels were attached. The whole construction is affixed to the ceiling by four chain hoists so that the system can be lowered synchronously for maintenance work. Particular challenges included statics planning and consideration of fire regulations, as the shaft also serves as a smoke vent.
We took over all the planning in close coordination with the client, the architects, and everyone else involved. A temporary platform was set up during assembly, on which the individual elements were put together and then attached to the ceiling.
In terms of technology, the installation is based on Unilumin USLIM II LED panels with a pixel resolution of 3.9 mm and a brightness of 900 cd/m². The entire steel-framed construction with an aluminium surface that is safe to walk on and air baffles weighs around 1,800 kg. The four chain hoists are compliant with the BGV C1 standard, can each bear 1,000 kg, and are controlled synchronously via a touch controller system. The contents are managed using the “PlayEverywhere” CMS system from our subsidiary Netvico GmbH in Stuttgart.
This innovative LED ceiling creates a sensational visual highlight that gives the atrium a dynamic, modern ambience.
